250 FB profiles under police radar
Kerala Police has identified 250-odd Facebook profiles and Facebook pages seen to be spreading religious and anti-national messages. The list of these profiles is now with the DGP, who will soon initiate action.
Many self-styled extremists have begun deleting their accounts post haste, worried that the police is after them.
Sources said the state police identified the profiles with the help of Facebook users. Internal Security SP J Jayanath compiled these hate profiles through its Facebook group ‘Netizen Police,’ an online group created by the state police to monitor online fraud and help in the police’s online patrol.
Netizen Police posted a link on Facebook and asked social media users to post the links of the pages or persons suspected to be spreading messages containing religious hatred.
The pages include several hackers’ pages, and ‘Reality of India,’ a page widely reported as being ‘abusive’ on the Facebook.
“We are getting lots of messages from Facebook users citing such instances. We are monitoring each and every aspect,” said Jayanath.
