4 AIE passengers quizzed over hijack drama onboard
Four passengers of a delayed Abu Dhabi-Kochi flight, which landed into ugly scenes in Thiruvananthapuram leading to a ‘hijack’ alarm on Friday, presented themselves before a team of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security at the CIAL here.
The four, Abdul Khader from Kunnamkulam, Muhammed Ashraf of Kodungallur, Thomas Jose from Ollur and Manoj from Edavanakkad were questioned by the BCAS team, under the DGCA, led by deputy commissioner Sarath Sreenivas.
The questioning, relating to the verbal fight between the airline crew and passengers over flight delay, lasted five hours. The statements of the passengers were recorded and taken by the BCAS team.
Two other accused passengers, Roushid of Kuttipuram and Augustine studying MBA in Dubai, involved in the episode, did not turn up for deposition. Roushid’s could not come owing to the demise of his father while Augustine could not be contacted by the DGCA.
The four who deposed later told the media they would go any length to end the ill-treatment meted out to the NRKs by Air India.
They said they informed the BCAS team that they had not entered the cockpit as alleged by the pilot. Nor had they threatened her or the crew. “Unless we had protested so vociferously, the AIE authorities would not have taken us to Kochi by air,” they said.
Members of the Kerala Pravasi Sanghom too had come to the airport pledging their support to the accused.
