6-day camp on mural painting
The Kochi Corporation and the Biennale Foundation have been jointly organising a six-day camp for mural artists in celebration of Onam.
Artists from across the state are participating in the camp at the Pallath Raman Cultural Centre, Fort Kochi.
“The camp is the first event jointly organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation and the city corporation ahead of the Biennale.
We aim at promoting and popularising mural art, a traditional and fading art form,” said Boney Thomas of Biennale Foundation. The city corporation is financially supporting the foundation.
A group of six artists led by Pratheesh C.V. from Sanskrit University, Kalady is participating in the camp. Other team members are Sreejith P.C., Ramesh T.B., Anoop R., A Adarsh and Rakesh K.V.
“This will be the first part of a series of such camps to be organised by the foundation. We are always promoting the traditional temple art of Kerala,” added Boney Thomas.
Artists are working on the theme ‘Onam and secularism’ on specially designed screens and only five organic colours: black, green, red white and yellow and their combinations are being used in the art work. The camp is open to the public.
“Though the themes of murals are mostly taken from the epics and subjects related to religions, this concept will be a different experience,” he said.
