7 get Lifer for murder of Youth Congress leader
The CBI special court on Friday awarded life term to the seven accused, including CPM former Kumbala area secretary Sudhakara Master, for the gruesome murder of the Youth Congress leader, Mr Abdul Jabbar, of Kasargod.
Urging political parties not to engage contract killers to settle political scores and to curb the practice of releasing political prisoners under the guise of remission, the special court judge, Mr S Vijayakumar, asserted that imprisonment for life should not be commuted or reduced in any manner.
“It's ironical to see political leaders and activists, whose ideologies are based on universal love and brotherhood, indulge in such criminal conspiracies and crimes with the help of contract killers,” the court observed. T
he court imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 each and asked all seven to pay the amount to legal heirs, including the parents of Abdul Jabbar.
Others convicted are Moidheen Kunji, S Sudhakar alias Sudhakara Master, Abdulla Kunhi alias Nadubail Abdulla, Ravi alias Ravi Panchambala of Mangalpadi, Abdul Basheer alias Basheer, Mahesh and Yeshwanth Kumar alias Yessu all of Kasargod.
The political animosity of the fourth accused Sudhakara Master and the sixth accused Abdul Kunji with Jabbar forced them to conspire and hire the other convicts, resulting in the murder.
Jabbar was killed on November 3, 2009, when he was traveling in a car along with his friend.
On Thursday, the judge let off five others among the accused while pronouncing the conviction.
