AC buses to have city halts
The AC low-floor buses deployed in long distance routes, which otherwise would have only fare stages of superfast as stops, would halt at all stops in cities for the benefit of the public.
This strict direction to the bus crew comes in the wake of the charge that the buses, bought under the JNNURM scheme and meant to operate only in cities, are being diverted to long-distance routes.
“Commuters can travel between points in the cities by doling out the old fare. The buses would stop at all points inside the city though after that they have very few halts,” a senior KSRTC official said. None of the buses conducting city services had been deployed along long-distance routes, he said.
“But there‘s a limit to the number of big-body buses that can be deployed in short, congested city routes. We have used only new buses for inter-district trips,” he said.
Meanwhile, the AC low-floor buses deployed in long-distance routes are raking up record collections.
While the average revenue per km in these low-floor buses conducting city services is Rs 29, it comes to Rs 40 in the recently-started long-distance services.
