Airport road to go six lane
Your ride to the airport can get smoother and faster soon.
Work on the Rs 20-crore project to widen the existing four-lane from Athani to the airport into six-way approach has commenced.
And it's just not widening. The Cochin International Airport Ltd is straightening some of the curves along the stretch.
“We aim to finish the work before opening of the new world-class international terminal. Commuters can have a smo-oth ride without any sha-rp curves on the stretch. And once they enter the airport, the elevated stre-tch takes them straight to the departure terminal of the upcoming international terminal while the one below goes to the arrival section,” a CIAL official said.
The new state-of-the-art terminal will be a three-storey building with the departure hall in the second floor, while the arrival is channelled through the first floor.
“The building spread over an area of 93,000 square metres is actually planned at three levels - departure at the second level, arrival first level and the immigration, customs and baggage screening to come up at the gro-und/underground floor,” the official said.
Tenders for the project, estimated to cost Rs 20.51 crores, have been floated and interested parties can apply till March 28.
