Alleged smuggler surrenders
Khadar Moideen alias Abdulla, who allegedy played a major role in the controversial electronic goods smuggling case surrendered before the CBI special court on Monday.
It was alleged that Abdulla was the link between smugglers and public servants including officials with the airport and customs department.
He was an agent who helped in smuggling goods from Singapore to different parts of the country through airports. A special court remanded the accused to judicial custody for two days.
The case says Abdulla assisted one Khaja, owner of an electronics shop in Bhurma Bazaar, Chennai, to smuggle electronic goods worth Rs 1.35 from Singapore.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had seized the consignment that was brought in as unaccompanied baggage worth Rs 1.35 crore, in 2010.
