Appointment scam: 5 sacked from CIAL
The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) on Friday sacked five persons who were recruited in 2009 and were under a cloud over an alleged scam in relation to these appointments.
The company also demoted two other staff members who were also recruited by the same process.
The action was taken by managing director V.J. Kurien who was authorised by the board of directors of the company to take appropriate action after considering the replies of the seven junior manager grade personnel.
CIAL staff unions, both INTUC and CITU, had submitted a memorandum alleging large-scale irregularities in the appointments of 18 junior managers at the airport and the audit committee which got the complaint conducted a preliminary probe and submitted its report to the board which suspected foul play prima facie.
Following this report the board constituted its own sub-committee in June 2011 to probe the allegations and the committee in its probe found that there had been irregularities in 13 cases.
Following the findings of the committee, three persons resigned from their posts while three others took the legal course.
A total of nine persons were given show-cause notices following the submission of the report.
