Back in the act
M’town beauty Navya Nair, a busy mother, wife and actor is ready for her second innings in Mollywood. Her success in Ranjith’s Nandanam with co-star Prithviraj was certainly the cherry on the cake of her film career.
The once reigning queen of the industry, Navya Nair is ready to bask in the limelight once again with Shyju Anthikkad’s Scene 1: Nammude Veedu. Portraying the role of a class XII teacher called Manju, Navya will star opposite Lal.
About her second innings she says, “I am not coming back in an aggressive way, I liked the screenplay and story, felt the movie had quite a systematic approach and agreed to take it. The screenplay is completely ready, when the scriptwriter made me read the script; he knew everything about it. The movie is a well-packaged one.”
Navya who has made a comeback after a sabbatical is not worried about the success of the movie at the box office. She says, “Usually one cannot predict the success of a movie before its release but according to my little knowledge, when the script is good — the movie should do well.”
She is in awe of Nandanam, which earned her the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress in 2002. Navya who plans to join the sets of her next film in July assures us that her comeback won’t disappoint the audience. “People won’t say Navya shouldn’t have been back to play such a role. I have not taken up this movie because my livelihood depends on it — it is my passion that brought me back,” she adds.
After her family, her next priority has always been dance. An acclaimed dancer, Navya has performed at various venues in and outside India, the latest being in Thiruvananthapuram to the tunes of percussionist Sivamani.
“I was very happy that I got such a huge opportunity to perform with an international figure,” says the danseuse.
Navya’s intense love and devotion for dance is something that will always remain unchanged. A reality dance talent show judge for kids on Asianet, post-marriage Navya is still pursuing dance and plans to seriously do something about it.
