Body on tracks for nearly 2 hrs
An aged man crossing the rail tracks in Thiruvankulam on the outskirts of the city was hit by a speeding train and his body was badly mutilated.
But, a dispute between the police over the jurisdiction resulted in the body lying on the tracks for close to two hours delaying many trains.
The incident happened around 10 am on Tuesday when 85-year-old Kun-nayyappan was hit by the Jan Shatabdi Express on Konnathu Bridge.
The loco pilot reported the incident when the train reached Mulanthu-ruthy station. Soon, the incident was reported to Tripunithura station and a team of railway staff reached the site and found the body parts lying all over the tracks.
“Since it’s outside the station limits, we first informed Tripunithura police station. But, the police simply became onlookers saying the area was outside their jurisdiction.
When the matter was informed to the Chottanikkara police station, no one was willing to come, doling out the same reason,” a railway official said.
“Finally we employed a person to collect the body parts in a sack and they then registered a case with the Chottanikkara police,” he said.
