Bus-car collision: Major tragedy averted
A major tragedy was averted on Friday when a private bus stopped short of falling into a gorge near Champakkara.
The Ernakulam-bound bus hit a Thrippunithura-bound car and skidded off the road between the Champakkara bus stop and the bridge.
However, the bus driver was able to stop the bus from falling into the gorge by crashing against a tree.
Police said four people suffered minor injuries in the mishap.
Deepu (38) of Palarivattom and Ananthakirshnan (28) of Thiruvamkulam, who hurt their arms, were given first aid.
According to police, a major tragedy was averted because the bus was just on its third gear when the accident occurred.
“It was just picking up pace after stopping at the Champakkara bus stop. The bus driver attempted to over-take an auto rickshaw, but hit a car that came from the opposite direction,” said the Thrippunithura sub inspector.
