Bus driver planted bomb to spite rival
The pipe bomb found at Veloor Bridge near Piravom Road station was placed by a KSRTC empanel driver who scribbled his friend-turned rival’s vehicle number in the steel tiffin box to “fix” him in the high-sensitive crime, investigating officers said Friday.
The role of Senthil Kumar, who is absconding, came to light after the police conducted a sudden raid at his house in Veliyanadu near here on the basis of the statement of one Thomas, whom the cops took into custody hours after the bomb recovery on Thursday.
From the house, cops recovered remnants of the materials used in bomb-making, like clock parts and gloves.
“We’ve solid evidence that points to his involvement. Now our focus is on whether he received any outside agency’s support in making the pipe bomb,” Pala DySP Ramesh Kumar said.
Earlier, cops had taken Thomas, also a bus driver and native of Edakatuvayal near here, into custody after his two-wheeler number was found scribbled on the box.
“When we interrogated Thomas, he pleaded innocence and expressed doubt that Senthil could have scribbled his vehicle number as the two were having enmity. We raided Senthil’s house when we received the crucial evidence.” he said.
Thomas said both had earlier been working under a private bus owner. Senthil was sent away after sometime, giving the job to Thomas.
The two had publicly sparred during a football match after which Senthil allegedly tore off the backseat of Thomas’s bike.

The police hunt for a bus driver following the detection of a locally-made crude bomb on a rail track near Piravom on Thursday has led to an interesting, yet scary, revelation.
Making a bomb is so easy a task; a kind of a cake-walk. Explosives experts say it is all on the net. Like recipes on how to make a cake, the net offers hundreds of videos explaining how to make a bomb.
The bomb planted at Velloor was in a tiffin box, capable of causing damage to at least four train compartments. The anti-sabotage team believes it was home-made, and a clumsy work at it.
Likely, many give a try at making bombs, either to create a scare for some petty reasons, or to cause damage. There are more than 100 bomb-making tutorial videos on YouTube.
Though many come with a warning that it should not be tried at home, chances are that many would make an attempt once they manage to find the components to make an explosive.
Crime branch to probe Piravom bomb case
The Crime Branch is taking over the investigations into the placement of a bomb on the rail track near the Piravom Road station on Thursday, as the prime accused is suspected to have received the aid of some ‘external agency’ in bomb-making.
“The crime branch has received orders to take over the case and is expected to start work on Saturday,” Kottayam SP C. Rajagopal said.
“Though the case is almost solved, we’re probing how the bus driver, still at large, could make such powerful bomb. A team has been sent to Tamil Nadu where he is suspected to be hiding,” he added.
