Camera to snap waste dumpers at Edappally
You may not want to smile if caught on this candid camera. Instead, you will have to pay a hefty amount as fine and face penal proceedings.
In a first of its kind project in the state, the city corporation is all set to install surveillance cameras in the city to check waste dumping in public places.
The inauguration of the Rs 10-lakh project will be held near Edappally Muttar Junction, where the first camera will be installed.
Mayor Tony Chammany will inaugurate the project. The initiative is expected to be a big help to the police and the corporation officials, as they had been finding it hard to tackle the issue of waste dumping in public places.
“The camera to be installed at Edappally will be capable of recording good-resolution visuals of 20 days.
These visuals will be extracted every 20 days to catch the culprits”, said T.K. Ashraf, chairman of the corporation health standing committee.
The second phase of the project will see the corporation installing cameras at border areas of the city and other places where waste dumping is still rampant. This includes areas like Perumpadappu, Willingdon island, Kaloor and Chembumukku.
