CBI cops’ transcripts reveal disturbing trends

In a major revelation, the transcripts of the telephonic conversation between two CBI officials in the Sampath murder case has shown that the CBI officers had differences of opinion throughout the course of the investigation not only in the Sampath murder case but also in the Abhaya murder case too.

The transcripts also reveal that even in the controversial Abhaya case the same investigators had disagreed with each other. The documents in possession with Deccan Chronicle prove this disturbing trend of the CBI.

The transcripts of phone calls between suspended CBI cop Unnikrishnan and S. Shini, IPS, Superintendent of Police, made on December 20, 2011 reveal that in the Sampath case as well as the

Abhaya case, the investigating teams fought each other and many left the team owing to the differences. In the Abhaya case too, there was an attempt to change the course of investigation.

When Shini pointed out that there were different groups in the Abhaya case, Unnikrishnan replied: “Three or four cops formed a group and tried to sideline the cops at the Thiru-
vananthapuram branch.

Unnikrishnan revealed that a cop, Darvin and ASP Nandakumara Nair never saw eye-to-eye during the Abhaya case investigation.

When the Abhaya case was being probed, Darvin who was part of the team for a month, sent a letter to the agency stating that he was going to resign.

However, Unnikrishnan made it clear that the letter was not written by Darvin but by some other person. Unnikrishnan also told Shini that Nandakumara Nair had harassed him while he was on the Abhaya case.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
