CBI official dies, mom follows
Hours after the death of the CBI official P. G Haridath, his mother Nirupama (85) died early on Friday, due to age-related illness.
According to close relatives, she was bedridden for some time and was barely conscious in the last one week. Ammini teacher, who had retired as a school teacher, was living along with her elder son Venugopal and “was not aware of the death of her son.
CBI dySP Haridath, found hanging at his Nayarambalam residence on Thursday, wanted to quit the job much earlier as he was “fed up with the pressure that was brought to bear upon him in the course of the sensational Sampath custodial death probe.
“He had told his wife he wanted to quit due to immense pressure and we have even agreed with his suggestion … he was already fighting depression at that time,” Rajesh Moothakunnam, the deceased cop’s brother-in-law told Deccan Chronicle.
Salil K B (51), Haridath’s collegemate and close friend (1978-81 batch, SNM College, Valyankara), says Haridath had always been straight-forward and would stand by what he felt was right.
“May be that alienated him in his job, and in the case.”Another close friend, an Ayurveda doctor, says: “I last met him two months back when he said he was seriously considering quitting the job. Then I told him to stick on.”
Earlier, a forensic team under forensic assistant director Annamma John collected forensic evidence in relation to the death of the CBI official. Heart-rendering scenes were witnessed in the evening as the body of Haridath was brought to his house in the evening after autopsy at the Alapuzha Medical College.
Relatives carried the deceased’s wife Nisha to have the last look at her spouse’s body and the last rites were done by his son Nandagopal, a second year Dairy & Technology student of the Veterinary College, Mannutti, Thrissur.
