Citizens trained in police response tactics
Over a 100 citizens here were given vital lessons on police response tactics including explosives detection and chemical hazard management, as part of the two-day training programme under the ‘Citizen for Security’ initiative.
“The volunteers have learned about chemical hazard management, detection of explosives, emergency preparedness, first aid and trauma care, among others.
The whole idea is that in case of an emergency, Citizens for Security in a particular area should be able to bring the situation under control without waiting for the police or fire force,” Assistant Commissioner of Traffic (West), Muhammed Rafique, said.
K.P. Sethumadhavan, manager (Plant Safety), FACT, briefed the trainees on the precautionary measures to be taken while dealing with chemical disasters.
“There are many chemical plants around Kochi city and mishaps involving vehicles carrying toxic chemicals have always been reported. If we teach people how to deal with such a situation, it will help reduce the impact of such mishaps,” the official said.
He said similar disaster awareness lessons would soon be extended to more people including merchants and drivers. The training is being given under the guidance of the Central Zone IG K.Padmakumar.
