Corporation councillors to visit Delhi Metro
A 36-member Kochi corporation delegation will visit Delhi to have a first-hand experience of the Delhi Metro Rail. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has invited the members of the civic body to visit the metro.
The trip assumes much significance as the corporation council has been at loggerheads with the DMRC over its attitude to the civic body while going about the preparatory work for the Kochi metro.
The team headed by R. Thyagarajan, chairman of the Education Standing Committee will leave for Delhi on October 16.
“We will try to meet E. Sreedh-aran, chief advisor to DMRC during our visit. Un-ion minister Prof K.V. Tho-mas has agreed to make arrangements for the meeting”, said Thyagarajan.
The visit will help the councillors get an idea of the advantage and facilities of the metro service.
Moreover, the trip may also help iron out the differences of opinion between the DMRC and the city corporation.
During the recent council meetings, the opposition councillors had alleged that agencies like the DMRC and Kochi Metro Rail Ltd were hijacking the powers of the corporation and taking major decisions regarding the development of the city without consulting the local body.
