Corporation signs MoU with ‘sister’ city Pyathigorsk, Russia
As part of the twinning programme called ‘sister city’ partnership agreement, the city corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pyathigorsk city corporation, a small city in western Russia.
The pact was signed between the mayor of Kochi and his counterpart in Pyathigorsk. A six-member corporation team which went to the sister city has agreed to collaborate with the Pyathigorsk city corporation in infrastructure development, health and tourism sectors.
“The agreement aims at developing a friendly and meaningful relationship with the Russian city which includes the exchange of ideas and technology”, said T.J Vinod, chairman of the development standing committee.
“The two cities have similar conditions in economic standard, climate and several other sectors which will help to promote a mutually beneficial cooperation between the two civic administrations. The major civic issues are also the same”, he added.
Projects in these sectors will be formulated after Pyathigorsk officials come to Kochi. They have been invited to the city in September. “Further discussions will be held with them when they are here”, he said.
It was on June 23 that the six-member delegation including mayor Tony Chammany, corporation secretary Ajith Patil, health committee chairman T.K.Ashraf, development committee chairman T.J Vinod, education standing committee chairman R. Thyagarajan and opposition councillor Anil Kumar had gone to Pyathigorsk. As part of the programme, the team also went to Moscow.
The mayor, along with T.K Ashraf, is currently in Dubai in connection with an award function and is scheduled to return on July 2.
