CUSAT terminates services of Kurup
The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) Syndicate which met on Saturday decided to terminate the services of Dr B. Madhusoodana Kurup, currently on deputation from the varsity as the Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS).
Dr Kurup secured the deputation from February 28, 2011 for five years while he was serving as professor in the School of Industrial Fisheries in Cusat.
Recently, the vigilance wing of the finance department of the state government had detected financial irregularities to the tune of ` 1.28 crore committed by Dr Kurup.
Later the Syndicate appointed a sub-committee to inquire into the issue and on the basis of its report, decided to cancel the deputation of Dr Kurup to KUFOS in March last.
It also recommended a vigilance inquiry into the whole episode and gave a letter to Dr Kurup asking him to return to the parent varsity.
However, Dr Kurup refused to heed the orders and instead submitted a petition to the Governor who is the chancellor of both the varsities. The Syndicate’s latest decision to terminate his services has come at this juncture.
The Syndicate also ratified the appointments of Dr P.S. Sreejith as the principal of its School of Engineering and Dr Mathew Cheriyan as the principal of Cochin University of College of Engineering (Kuttanad) at the Saturday meeting.
