Docs watch live MITRA clip procedure
Cardiologists attending a national conference here had the unique opportunity to watch live a noninvasive procedure for repairing the leaky heart valve.
The process called MITRA clip procedure, which was performed at the Tor Vergata Hospital, Rome, was shown live during the annual meeting of the angioplasty experts, held here on Saturday.
The organisers claimed that this was the first of its kind live streaming of the MITRA clip procedure.
The three-day annual meeting has been organized by the National Interventional Council, the association of angioplasty specialists.
Leading cardiologist from Macedonia Dr. Sesko Kedev, said that traditional heart surgeries were being replaced by interventional techniques across the globe. “Since such procedures do not involve the tearing up of body, it is considered convenient for the patients.
So globally there is a preference for interventional cardiology procedures and it’s reflected in India as well,” he said.
The MITRA clip is an innovative catheter based procedure which is effective in treating weaker hearts. Dr. Dougal McClean and Dr. Peter Fitzgerald led the analysis and discussions on the procedure.
The session also discussed other latest modalities in angioplasty. Experts presented papers on bio absorbable stent, which is used to replace the normal stent made of metal.
Earlier, the annual meeting was inaugurated by Dr. Sesko Kedev. The meeting observed that health insurance sector in the country was still in its infancy stage.
The session also deliberated the obstacles in bringing latest technologies in medical treatment to the country.
Dr. Ashok Seth, national president of Cardiology Society of India, presided. Around 1,300 cardiology experts from India and abroad are attending the conference, organised by the Kerala chapter of the Cardiological Society of India.
