Drive to contain epidemics in district
The district administration and health authorities are intensifying their epidemic prevention drive as more cases of monsoon-related diseases are being reported from various parts of the district.
As part of the drive, an intensive disease prevention week will be observed from June 22 to June 28, said district medical officer Dr Haseena Muhammed.
Activities like waste removal, spraying kerosene and black oil and also fogging to eradicate mosquito larvae will be intensified every Wednesday. In addition, awareness programmes will also be conducted in schools.
As part of the intensive disease prevention week, the functioning of health squads at the ward level will be accelerated with the coordination of health workers in the primary health centres, Kudumbasree and Asha.
The premises of schools in the district will be cleaned with the support of parent teacher associations, along with chlorination of wells and other water sources.
In a function held on Friday in Kothamangalam, the district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappalli inaugurated the programme while municipal chairman K.P. Babu presided over the function.
Kothamangalam taluk hospital superintendent Dr. Shanu took a class during the inaugural function.
