DYFI leader first accused in Shukoor murder case
The special investigation team probing the murder of Abdul Shukoor is getting ready to file a charge sheet against 33 accused at the Kannur judicial first class magistrate court by Saturday.
Shukoor, a Muslim Stude-nts Federation activist, was lynched and executed by CPM men at Keezhara near Taliparamba on February 20, allegedly in retaliation for an attack on Kannur party chief P. Jayarajan and T.V. Rajesh, MLA, earlier in the day.
According to the charge sheet, a local DYFI leader K.V. Sumesh, now active in the DYFI, is the first accused and Ganeshan, A. Anoop, Vijesh and Prakashan co-accused.
CPM leader P. Jayarjan and T.V. Rajesh, MLA, wo-uld be the 32nd and 33rd accused, said an SIT official.
The SIT had earlier arraigned 39 and placed Jayarajan and Rajesh 38th and 39th accused. But the list was shortened to 33 after letting off a few persons after questioning.
The SIT has arrested 29 CPM workers and leaders, including district secretary Jayarajan. Rajesh is in custody for his failure to prevent the murder despite being aware of the conspiracy. The majority out of 29 persons are on bail.
