Enough medicine to fight epidemic: Babu
An action plan will be chalked out to control monsoon-related epidemics in the district in coordination with the health department, local bodies and NGOs, said excise minister K. Babu here, on Saturday.
He was addressing a review meeting convened to assess the disease prevention drive here on Saturday.
All government hospitals and primary healthcare centers have sufficient stock of medicines, he said.
The minister asked the district medical officer to take necessary steps to fill vacant posts of doctors through recruitment on contract basis and through redeployment.
Though the situation in the district is not grave, the authorities should be vigilant, he added. K. Babu asked those in charge of disease prevention to formulate a new preventive programme by coordinating the medical streams of ayurveda, allopathy and homoeo.
He directed the local bodies to initiate the drive against mosquito larvae. This could be done by getting the public also to participate in the programme, the minister said.
Funds for disease prevention allocated for the district, will be made available on Monday and all panchayats should make maximum use of these funds as per the guidelines, he said.
As part of the drive, a 24-hour control room has been opened at the district medical office. Calls can be made to: 2373616.
