Excise staff survive bullet attack by spirit mafia
Excise cops survived a suspected bullet attack by spirit mafia in broad daylight on Container Road near Vallarpadom LNG Terminal on Saturday.
The incident occurred near Kattath junction in the afternoon when the excise officials were returning from Aluva Chief Judicial Magistrate court, after presenting samples of spirit seized from Edappally on Thursday.
Police sources say that they suspect the shot was fired by a gang that came in an SUV. The unidentified vehicle fled the scene immediately.
The forensic expert team that examined the bullet-mark said the firing can only be confirmed on Sunday after a detailed inspection.
Excise preventive officer Mohammed Mazood, guard Freddy Fernandez and driver Usman were in the Jeep when the incident occurred. “We were coming to the High Court side.
Suddenly, we heard the sound of a gun shot and there was a mark on our windshield. We could not notice the registration number of the SUV, as it immediately fled the scene,” said Mohammed Mazood the EPO.
