Families miss soaps, but vibe well
There is a silver lining to the dreaded power cuts, as in absence of all the electronic media the families are sitting together and communicating much more than they normally would.
Surely housewives are missing their favourite soap operas, and the youngsters some of the IPL dramas, but many of them are rediscovering the experience of interpersonal communication.
People say, a trend that was long lost after the mega serial revolution, has come back now during the power-cuts. “We all sit together during load shedding and discuss the neighbourhood matters,” says Nihal Shaikh of Palarivattom.
“A little power regulation is actually a blessing in disguise. It would be terrible to bear the mosquitoes and heat, but the families would get some time to talk about something,” she said.
In a few places, even the neighbours gather together and kill time gossiping, while the kids play games. “We managed our lives pretty well during power regulations,” said George Panicker of Maradu.
“The cuts have brought our kids back to us. Laptops have run out of battery and UPSs beeped into silence. Now we have our children sitting with us instead of the Facebook. They even share the dining table with us,” he said.
