Four from Ernakulam killed in Salem accident

A total of five persons including four members of a Malayali family were killed in a road accident involving two cars at the Ottapara bypass at Athoor near Salem on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Kalady Mattoor natives Donal (45), his wife Dally (40), son George (12) and relative Daisy (60).

Fiona (13), daughter of Donal and car driver Sujith were seriously injured and have been admitted to hospital.

The family was returning after a pilgrimage to Velankanni via Chennai after visiting a relative there.

Chennai Mylapore native Kumar (45) who was coming in the car from the opposite direction also was killed in the head-on collision, which occurred around 2.40 pm.

Police said both the cars were speeding above limits and were completely mauled in the impact of
the crash. The victims were taken out after devouring the parts of the cars.

Four died at the accident spot while George succumbed to his wounds at the hospital. Donal is a businessman in electronic goods at Kalady.
