Ganja mafia now takes rail route
A man was held from an interstate train at Ernakulam south railway station last week for possessing 40 gms of ganja.
When he was quizzed about the source of the ganja, the railway police heard some shocking revelations about the growing ganja mafia who operate on trains.
According to Maris of Thirunalveli in Tamil Nadu, the ganja nexus is spread across all of south India with strong roots in Kerala. It has hundreds of regular traders and customers.
It is learnt that Maris was only a member of the gang and that the mafia was being controlled from Orissa.
According to police, there are regular customers for ganja on a train.
“Trains offer an easier location to smuggle the consignment and also to transfer it from one person to another,” said a so-urce in the railway police.
It is learnt that migrant labourers who come to the state also act as smugglers. “We are tracking the migrant labourers who are travelling back to Kerala from their native places” the source said.
