Girl serious after stone hit
A teenaged girl’s dream of studying at a reputed college in Chennai got shattered after an object hurled at the speeding Chennai Mail hit her forehead, seriously injuring her.
Pavithra S. ,17, a native of Vazhuthakad in the capital who passed her plus two exams with flying colours, was seated at the windows seat of the Trivandrum-Chennai mail when an object hit her hard. It was soon after the train left Tripunithura on Wednesday night.
Worse, she was travelling to Chennai after an interview call letter came to her from the Sri Muthukumaran Institute of Technology. “She wanted to pursue B. Tech IT course from Chennai.
But now she is in the ICU with a 5-cm deep wound and a bone fracture. We don’t know whether she can join the college,” said a relative outside the ICU at the Medical Trust Hospital.
Neither Pavithra nor her father Subhu Royal has any clue of the material thrown from outside.
“The incident happened at 7.10 pm after the train left the Tripunithura station.
A case has been registered; and primarily, it seems to be a stone hurling incident. It’s difficult to zero in on the accused, though a probe is progressing around certain gangs in Chembukadu area,” an official of the Ernakulam Government Railway Police said.
