Girls’ Home to get a Rs 4.5 crore makeover
The Girls’ Home at Kakkanad is going in for a makeover with an activity centre, vegetable farm, reading room and vocational training centre, under a Rs 4.5 crore project, according to Ernakulam district collector, PI Sheikh Pareeth.
The Public Works Department, which had been approached for funds, was expected to approve it in a couple of weeks, he said on Friday.
Legislator Benny Bahanan had already given 10 computers for the activity centre which would also be equipped with 10 sewing machines, the collector added.
“Faculty of the Kalamassery Government Polytechnic will be invited to take classes for the girls at the home and we are also planning to get doctors of the Ernakulam General Hospital to visit it every month as the girls have health problems and the centre has poor supply of medicines,” he explained.
It has also been decided to appoint a woman watcher/driver for the home and buy it an autorickshaw for mobility.
