Go the tech way, APJ to teachers
Teachers should become mentors for students and facilitate the use of latest technology to enhance the learning process, former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said on Thursday.
Inaugurating a two-day seminar on technology-enabled training at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Dr Kalam said teachers should use web-based systems to revolutionize the teaching system.
“Technology empowers learning process, but technology cannot replace teachers,” he said.
The former president has also advised educational institutions to adopt virtual learning tools. Institutions like INA should set up a vibrant e-net work system by digitizing the records of IAN cadets from the stage of admission to end of the study term, he said.
Stressing the importance of quality education, Dr Kalam said the young generation in the country should be enabled to lift the economy by harnessing the potential of new technologies.
This was the first visit of Dr Kalam to INA and Kannur district. Lt Gen K. Surendra Nath, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, General officer commanding-in-chief, Army Training Command Lt Gen V.K. Saxena, Prof. Kannan M., Moudgalya from IIT Mumbai and representatives from the industry are taking part in the two day seminar.
