Gopi asked to skip party meet
Breaking tradition, the Ernakulam district committee meeting of the CPM scheduled for Wednesday would keep out its former secretary Gopi Kottamurikkal when the decision to expel him from the party is announced.
Also, those involved in the spycam operation against Gopi, who was accused of having a romance with a woman lawyer, have been asked out of the meeting.
The two, P.S. Mohanan and K.A. Chackochan, have also not been called for the meeting, at which it would be announced they would work in lower committees. Also, the party office staff behind the spycam operation were asked to stay away from office work.
Party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan would attend the meeting.
While Gopi refused comment, party sources said the three were informed over the phone they were not expected to be present at the meeting.
Sources close to Gopi said a few leaders in the district met him and held discussions. They reportedly pledged support to Gopi who even on Monday said he stood by his charge former minister S. Sarma and CITU leader K. Chandran Pillai were behind the plot to tarnish him.
Sources close to Gopi said this exclusion from the meeting was against party norms since those against whom action was being taken had to be called to the meeting when the state committee decision was announced.
