HC calls for posting details from state
The Kerala High Court on Tuesday asked the state whether it had readied any guidelines or criteria for appointing the state information commissioner.
It also asked the state to submit the details of the steps taken in this regard.
A division bench comprising acting chief justice Manjula Chellur and justice V. Chithambaresh passed the order on a petition filed by RTI activist D.B. Binu.
He had sought a directive to keep in abeyance all steps to fill the post till the respondents formulated a selection procedure or guidelines to be
followed by the selection
committee.
The petitioner said a vacancy of information commissioner in the State Information Commission had arisen, following the retirement of K. Rajagopal on March 14.
The state had initiated steps to fill the vacancy but no procedure in consonance with the norms had been evolved. It was likely to turn into a political appointment, he argued.
