HC orders status quo at Aluva Manappuram
Kerala High Court has asked Aluva municipality to maintain status quo on its decision to grant permission to a private football club for the construction of a stadium at the Sivarathri Manappuram.
A division bench compr-ising Justices Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and C.T. Ravikumar passed the order while considering a petition filed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
The petitioner argued that the municipality did not have any ownership, right, control or authority over Sivarathri Manappu-ram and the decision to grant permission for Eagl-es Football Club Kochi was arbitrary and illegal.
The petitioner further argued the municipality was leasing out Sivarathri Manappuram for conducting trade fare during Siv-arathri festival seasons and making a profit of Rs 30 lakh a year from land rent.
The amount received thus was to be handed ov-er to the devaswom board for the protection of the Manappuram and maintenance of Mahadeva temple.
The devaswom board was not taking any interest to protect Sivarathri Manappuram because of political reasons.
So, the manappuram could not be gifted to the club for construction of football stadium, Vishwa indu Parishad argued.
