IB to depute Kerala cops at CIAL
After failing to get a sufficient staff quota of its own, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) is in the process of screening the papers of 50 per cent of the Kerala Police personnel who have applied for deputation to the IB, for being deployed at the immigration wing of the Cochin international airport.
Currently, IB personnel consist of just 2 per cent of the total of around 300 personnel manning the immigration wing and the IB plans to raise the level of its own officials slowly while focusing on giving deputation to personnel from the Kerala police. This is because of the shortage of IB’s own personnel for being deployed at the airport.
Sources said the deputation process is cumbersome and involves a lot of paper work and the screening is also quite tough and hence, will take time. The service conditions in the state and central services are different and this makes the paper work complex. So far no one has been posted on deputation.
Mr S.K. Nair of the IB took over from Mr M.R. Maniyan as the Port Registration Officer the other day and he will be in control of the immigration wing, henceforth. Mr Maniyan, an SP with Kerala police, retired from service also on the same day.
The Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO), set up at the beginning of the year, is already under the control of the IB.
The IB will also have a tough task in keeping up its reputation and prove that the new immigration set up is not just old wine in new bottle with a majority of Kerala police personnel continuing to man the crucial system. It’s almost sure that for a long time to come, the personnel on deputation will dominate the immigration wing at the airport.
