Innovation Zone casts a wider net
The proposed Technology Innovation Zone in Kochi will host more start-ups apart from telecom and these may include data analytics, animation and gaming, VLSI and biotechnology.
The zone at Kinfra HiTech Park at Kalamassery, will provide space at low cost to start-up companies, which would have to pay only the operational cost, a release here said.
The government will manage the infrastructure and the innovator units will have 100% operational freedom to pursue their novel ideas and graduate into independent businesses.
Unlike other announcements at Emerging Kerala, the one for TIZ came with specific timelines with the first 25,000 sq ft to be operational by May 12, 2013 and the remaining 75,000 sq ft by January 12, 2014. The initial investment is estimated to be Rs 100 crore.
Government is also gearing up to notify the Student entrepreneurship policy in 30 days. The policy proposes to give 20 per cent concession in attendance and four per cent grace marks in examination to student entrepreneurs.
