Inter-state gang held for fake guarantee
Four natives of Tamil Nadu and a Keralite were held by the Kochi police on Wednesday morning for producing fake bank guarantee worth Rs 10 crore at the M.G Road branch of Central Bank of India.
The gang was held when the bank officials cross-checked the authenticity of the guarantee with Central Bank of India at Patuapara in Kolkata, from where the guarantee was said to be drawn.
The arrested were identified as S.D. Thyagarajan,37, and P.Kalamegham,42, of Coimbatore, M.Kumraswamy, 47 and D. Shanmugham, 42 of Tirupur and Unnikrishnan, 43,of Perinthalmanna.
According to the police, the gang sought Rs 1 crore from the branch of Central Bank on Wednesday morning, citing that the money had to be transferred to a Thrissur-based company.
The bank officials were doubtful about the bank guarantee, as the maximum guarantee any bank would certify is Rs 3 crore.
When the bank here contacted the Patuapara bank, the officials there said they have never issued such a guarantee worth Rs 10 crore.
The bank officials here immediately alerted the police, who arrived on the scene and held the gangsters.
