Isolated cases of rat fever reported in district
Despite the monsoon making a late surge by the end of August, there has been no major outbreak of epidemics in Ernakulam district while fever cases too had come down compared to June and July.
However, isolated cases of leptospirosis (rat fever) are being reported, triggering fear in the eastern parts of the district.
Suspected cases of leptospirosis had gone up to 57 in August from 30 in June and 41 in July while the confirmed cases in August were 35 against 11 in June.
According to health department statistics, the confirmed dengue cases had come down to 32 in August from 78 in June.
A total of 9 confirmed viral hepatitis A cases had been reported in August against one case in
June.
Hepatitis B cases had come down to 2 in August from 52 in June.
While a total of 22,226 and 25,689 cases of fever were reported in June and July this year, in August the total new cases were put at 18,076.
However, within two days of September, a total of 1,019 fever cases have been reported from
different parts of the district.
Diarrhoea cases came down to 1,776 in August from 3,048 in June while in two days of September it has crossed 100.
