Italian artist to gift Kochi ‘The Perfect World’
‘The Perfect World’ is what Italian artist Giuseppe Stampone is readying for the Kochi Muziris Biennale.
The work of the artist, who was born in France, at the Venice Biennale with Great Canal as its backdrop and the comment ‘Bye Bye Ai Weiwei’ (the name of the leading Chinese artist), had shocked the art world, as it was seen as an affront. But Giuseppe says the world is making a big fuzz turning against China even as it always wants to do business with it.
“It’s the big billboards, their colour, their typography —– and these being positioned among the green all around —– that impressed and shocked me.
They have a strong iconography revealing them to be truly local. Unlike in the West, where they seem to be the same anywhere,” says Giuseppe who came down here two days ago.
Giuseppe is an artist who has used all the possible synergies between physical and digital reality, creating a neo-dimensional plane that is close to everyday life. He has created works
of forceful ethical and social relevance.
“Art should have no confusion, no layers, layers especially of built-up presumptions. It should be simple.” And, here in Kochi, he proposes to have an installation with a world map highlighting conflicts; a map of India highlighting Kochi.
He will be going around speaking to people and knowing what their perceptions are of a world they have never visited. And, this will be demonstrated in his work, explaining ‘how globalised communication creates false impressions’.
