Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate court remanded in CBI custody the two CPI(M) leaders – Karayi Chandrasekharan and Ka-rayi Rajan – allegedly inv-olved in the Fasal murder.

CJM P. Sasidharan passed the order following the High Court order upholding his decision to remand them in custody. The CBI custody would be till Thursday.

Earlier, the High Court had stayed the magistrate’s order to grant CBI custody of the Karayi duo. However, Justice S.S. Satheesachandran on Monday lifted the interim stay and asked the magistrate to hand over the accused to CBI.

The court dismissed the petition challenging the remand in CBI custody.

Counsel for the petitioners M.K. Damodaran submitted that an accused already remanded could not be given in police custody.

However, CBI counsel Chandrashekhara Pillai argued that even if the chargesheet was filed and cognisance taken, the magistrate could still remand the accused in police custody.
