Kitex told to curb sewage discharge
In response to the recent allegations of pollution against Kitex Company at Kizhakkambalam, a joint technical expert committee inspected the site and submitted a report to the district administration.
The joint committee comprised pollution control board officials, Kitex technical expert, an action council representative and district administration representatives.
The team inspected the effluent treatment plant (ETP), sewage treatment plant and boiler plant in the company.
As per the report, the committee insisted that the company keep a log book at the ETP to record the sledge transportation and that it be kept in a closed room to restrict the odour from it.
The committee also insisted that the ground water department monitor the ground water on the premises.
“The company must ensure to restrict the sewage effluent discharge in the panchayat within the limit prescribed by the pollution control board and the usage of agro waste for the boiler should be monitored” said an expert of the committee. A decision would be taken by the district collector based on the report.
