Krishna Iyer shoulders Emerging Kerala
Doing a volte face, Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer on Saturday said that he was in favour of Emerging Kerala which he feels is being organised to put the state on the path to prosperity. Iyer said that he believed Emerging Kerala was aimed at the overall development of the state.
He said that he now understood that there was no deal to sell government land at the meet and that the chief minister promised to ensure this. Justice Iyer said that he found the summit a means to wipe out hunger and poverty in the land.
Justice Iyer made these comments while speaking at a function in CUSAT where a legal chair on human rights in his name was inaugurated by the chief minister.
Interestingly, inaugurating a people’s convention at his residence here on Wednesday, Iyer had said that proposals for allotting land to foreign capitalists in Kerala, where there is a scarcity of land, cannot be accepted on the pretext of Emerging Kerala.
Iyer, however, had said that if the chief minister and the industries minister did not hand over public land to private investors and dropped projects that had an environmental impact, he would appreciate it.
