Kurup’s posting as VC cancelled
The Cochin University of Science and Technology on Thursday issued orders cancelling the deputation of Dr. Madhusoodana Kurup from the School of Industrial Fisheries to the post of Vice-Chancellor of the Fisheries University.
The last syndicate meeting had cancelled the ratification given by it in December to the decision of the Cusat Vice-Chancellor to allow his deputation.
The syndicate also decided to suspend Prof. Chandramohan Kumar, former registrar, from the post of professor at the department of chemical oceanography where he is serving currently, for allowing the deputation of Dr. Kurup despite serious financial allegations against him.
According to sources, both the orders were signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ramachandran Thekkedath, on Thursday.
The syndicate sub-committee for inquiring into the allegations against Dr. Kurup submitted its report to the syndicate on Thursday.
The state financial inspection wing had recently detected serious financial irregularities committed by him while serving at Cusat. On Thursday, the syndicate asked the State Government to order a vigilance inquiry.
