Land acquisition within 10 days: GCDA
Land acquisition for the proposed bund road connecting Thevara to Thykoodam, which will help to decongest SA Road and the Vyttila junction, will be completed within 10 days, said N. Venugopal, chairman of the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA).
“The GCDA is already in possession of 70 per cent of the land required for the project. The remaining 30 per cent needs to be acquired.
Valuation of houses and commercial establishments in the proposed stretch is progressing. Land owners are willing to provide the land and there are no major issues in acquisition,” said the GCDA chairman.
Valuation of two small houses and three shops is yet to be completed while some issues remain regarding an area owned by a church as they are unwilling to hand over the land.
It is hoped that Revenue Department officials will be able to complete acquisition within 10 days, he added.
Meanwhile, the Authority has proposed a land swap deal for acquisition. Land owners who will have to be relocated, can surrender their land while receiving land from the Authority.
The GCDA will provide land to these people in other locations. This system can facilitate easy land acquisition, according to N. Venugopal.
GCDA authorities have already removed unauthorised structures that have come up along the proposed path.
The Thevara- Thykoodam Bund road is one of the major roads that will be developed to ensure better east-west connectivity in the city.
The 3.5 km road that begins from Thykoodam bridge on the bypass near Vytilla, passes through Chilavanoor and Panampilly Nagar and ends at Thevara.
