‘LDF govt tried to derail Fasal probe’
The CBI on Friday told the Kerala high court that the previous LDF government tried to derail its probe into the 2006 Fasal murder case by repeatedly filing appeals before the high court and the Supreme Court.
The CBI team also submitted that the investigation had revealed that CPM Kannur district secretariat member Karayil Rajan of Kadiroor and Thiruvangad local committee secretary Karayil Chandrashekharan hatched a conspiracy and assigned eight hard core criminals to kill Fasal who had shifted loyalties and joined the NDF.
Kodi Suni, an absconding accused in the Chandrasekharan murder case, is the prime accused in the case. The court on Friday permitted the CBI to go ahead with the arrest of the two CPM leaders. n
The CBI also submitted before the court that the allegation of the CPM that the RSS was involved in the murder was untrue.
CBI made the submission while considering the petitions of two CPM leaders seeking bail. The court permitted the CBI to arrest the accused.
There was no legal impediment to arrest the two CPM local leaders, Justice PS Gopinathan held.
Fasal was murdered on October 2006. "To prevent CBI investigation, the previous CPM- lead government filed an appeal before the division bench of the high court and later the government approached Supreme Court and filed a special leave petitionHowever, all the petitions were dismissed." The revelation made by the accused in the case as well as other evidences clearly established the role of CPM in the Chandrasekharan murder, CBI said. VP Arundas, Babu alias MK Kalesh and Arun Kumar, three accused in the case, also approached the court seeking bail.
