Liquor ban on train effective
Southern Railway on Friday submitted before Kerala High Court that the recent ban on consumption of liquor helped bring down incidents of misbehavior, nuisance and indecent acts on trains.
Railway Divisional Security Commissioner M Ramesh made the submission on a plea challenging the ban. Railways submitted that 146 cases had been registered for being intoxicated and causing nuisance. “The railways further submitted that the Railway Administration is convinced that drunkards are root causes for law and order problems especially against indecent behaviors towards women“ he submitted. The railways are strictly implementing the order and the action was for public good and not to harass any passenger. No passenger, capable of looking after himself, would w be subjected to any test.
