Media plays corrective force in democratic system: CM

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy formally opened the renovated building of the Ernakulam Press Club on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, chief minister said that political leaders and peoples’ representatives should be tolerant towards media criticisms.

“Media has an important role in the democratic system as a corrective force. Media persons should work honestly to fulfill their responsibility,” remarked the Chief Minister.

Union Consumer Affairs Minister K.V. Thomas who was the chief guest of the function said that media persons have a significant role in development of Kochi as a metro city.

Excise Minister K. Babu inaugurated the e-library. The minister said that media is a major factor that strengthens the democracy.

Abdullah Mattancherry, president, press club presided over the, function. Minister Anoop Jacob, MLAs Hibi Eden, Dominic Presentation, V.P. Sajeendran, mayor Tony Chammany, district panchayat president Eldose Kunnappally and deputy mayor B. Bhadra also attended the function.
