Metro prep works to get over soon
Amidst the continuing confusion over who should undertake the main work of Kochi Metro, the preparatory works of the project including the North railway overbridge are getting completed. Indications are that all such works would be completed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) by the year-end.
The DMRC authorities told the district administration that the North RoB would be ready for inauguration next week. Work of the new RoB near the KSRTC bus station, another metro rail-related project, is fast progressing and 75 per cent of the work has been completed. The structure will be ready for opening soon.
Girders have been built at the construction site and they will be installed after getting the Railway’s nod. More than 60 workers have been assigned for the timely completion of the work.
The two-lane overbridge with a width of 9.7 metres, will connect Rajaji Road with Salim Rajan Road. Footpaths have been constructed at both sides for pedestrian use and to install utility cables.
The new flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion at south overbridge and Jose junction.
The exact date of the North RoB being opened to the public will be finalised as per the convenience of the chief minister.
