New security system at RBI
In a bid to beef up the security in the regional office of Reserve Bank of India in the city, bank authorities are set to install crash rated boom barrier system which will help the security officials to stop vehicles from outside entering the bank premises.
The installation works of the advanced security measure have begun and the system is set to start functioning in another 10 days.
Boom Barriers are electro hydraulically-operated barriers to stop intrusions by vehicles, according to sources. Unlike the normal swinging automatic boom barriers which are not able to resist even small impact loads, these can withstand static impact loads of various ranges. The move is on account of ensuring better security for the currency crest.
“The material for the boom barriers is designed in full core steel, ensuring maximum safety against corrosion. It is being installed at the entry point of RBI. The barrier is normally closed and opened only when bank vehicles enter," a top source in RBI said.
The bank already has security measures like perimeter wall intrusion alert system and security officials.
The bank general manager, Mr CV George, had also sought the assistance of the local police in beefing up the security.
He said the police should intervene immediately to check unauthorised parking of vehicles in front of the bank and also direct private buses not to stop near the bank, as it could act as cover for intruders.
He had also asked the director-general of police to provide policemen and advanced weapons to guard the entry point of the bank.
