No room for ROBs in budget
Even as the Railway Minister, Dinesh Trivedi, promised to fast-track elimination of level crossings, a key project to construct ROBs at vital locations submitted by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala Ltd has failed to find a place in the railway budget.
“The railway proposed 47 ROBs based on a Train Vehicle Unit study on a cost - sharing basis. The RBDCK had submitted a revised list of 10 ROBs that can be constructed, to the chief bridge engineer for inclusion in the railway budget,” a top official of the state government agency said.
However, it is not mentioned under Annexure 18 (List of 31 projects being executed with state co-operation) or anywhere else in the budget.
“If its own proposal is not mentioned in the budget, then the railway can’t address the State’s main concern of unmanned level crossings in two years as promised,” said Paul Manvattom, president of All Kerala Rail Passenger Users Association.
