Nod to allot merit seats in SF med colleges
In a curious turn to the ongoing self-financing MBBS admission row, the state government has issued a GO giving sanction to the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations to make allotments to the government merit seats in the 11 SF colleges under the Kerala private medical college management association (KPMCMA).
By the admission of the principal secretary to the government, Rajeev Sadanandan, who has signed the order on June 15, the KPMCMA and the government were yet to finalise an agreement for admissions to these colleges.
This, it was stated, was “due to some demands raised by the association regarding allocation of seats under the management quota.”
The order, however, notes that the mode of admission and the fee structure proposed to the merit seats were not under dispute.
“The Commissioner of Entrance Examination has intimated that unless orders are issued regarding allocation of seats under ‘merit quota’ in the self-financing medical colleges, the allotment will get further delayed in respect of seats in government medical colleges and government merit seats in private medical colleges,” the GO says.
“In the circumstances, orders are issued regarding allocation of merit seats in the following (11) self-financing medical colleges,” the five page GO adds.
The colleges include Kannur and Karuna medical colleges which are said to have
not signed any agreement with the government.
Meanwhile, Dr Fazal Gafoor, president of KPMCMA, said he was not aware of any such GO issued by the government.
“The government has not signed any agreement with KPMCMA. Then, how can it issue such a GO?,” he wondered.
